ECNIS promotes researcher training in multiple ways, including the award of different kinds of fellowships and the organisation of training courses and workshops (stand-alone or in the context of conferences).
1. Fellowships
ECNIS offered the following 3 kinds of fellowships:
ECNIS Exchange fellowships were awarded to doctoral and post-doctoral students and junior scientists from a laboratory member of ECNIS to visit another laboratory member of ECNIS, for a limited period of time, to work on a joint ECNIS-related project. These fellowship were awarded to pre-doctoral students, post-doctoral student and young scientists for an indicative duration of 0,5-6 months.
ECNIS Training fellowships were awarded to doctoral and post-doctoral students and junior scientists from a non-ECNIS laboratory including students from non-European countries to visit an ECNIS member laboratory for an indicative duration of 0.5-6 months, to obtain advanced training while working on an ECNIS-related project.

Training fellowships for ECNIS scientists in non- ECNIS institutions |
ECNIS Training fellowships for ECNIS scientists in non-ECNIS institutions were awarded to junior and senior scientists from an institute member of ECNIS to visit another centre non-member of ECNIS, for a period of time going from 2 weeks to 2 months (shorter visits should be funded from the regular ECNIS budget of each partner), with the aim of acquiring specific skills and methodologies that could be then implemented within ECNIS projects.

2. Training courses and workshops
ECNIS organizes training courses to enable junior scientists to obtain theoretical or technical expertise as well as to give an opportunity to more senior. It also organizes workshops to provide an opportunity for senior as well as younger scientists, from within as well as from outside ECNIS, to discuss in depth issues of current interest in the area of environmental carcinogenesis.
